Civic Arts Centre

Commissioned by a state cultural trust, the Civic Arts Centre gives the city a single address for exhibitions, performance, and public gathering. A folded concrete roof spans the main exhibition hall column-free, admitting north light through a continuous clerestory while keeping direct sun off the artwork below.

The building steps down toward an open plaza and amphitheatre, blurring the line between the institution and the street so the centre reads as public space first, building second.
